Responsibilities

The significance of a ground school instructor cannot be understated. Ground School instructors play a vital role in preparing company pilots for their flight assignments. They provide a comprehensive course of study covering all essential elements of indoc and recurrent training.

The Ground Instructor impacts company training of all required materials to incoming and current pilots. Responsible for ground school modules, recurrent ground school and basic indoctrination, this position ensures pilots are properly trained and ready for flight.

This role requires that the qualified candidate:

  • Teach New Hire and Recurrent courseware.
  • Ensure all ground training meets regulatory compliance standards and is documented in accordance with the company Training Manual.
  • Serve as a point of communication for students before and during Ground Training.
  • Assist Training Department in resolving issues with students.
  • Administer online tests and distance learning modules, ensuring compliance with completion standards.
  • Coordinate with payroll to ensure proper pay for students.
  • Monitor student progress and intervenes with additional training or counseling when needed. Responsible for making final determination regarding student performance and recommendation for simulator training.
  • Ensure new pilots have completed required time verifications, meet company minimums, and
  • Prepare paperwork necessary for check-rides.
  • Aid in the development and revision of printed and electronic courseware and training documents. Responsible for maintaining instructional familiarity with all relevant course content, including learning new curriculum to meet the changing training needs of the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department and company.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two years ground instructor experience.
  • FAA ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) or Advanced Ground School (AGI) certification required.
  • Great interpersonal skills, ability to adapt, in the moment, to varied questions and discussion topics in class.
  • Ability to grade student performance and make recommendation for simulator training.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe products.
  • Previous Aeronautical Ground and Flight instruction preferred.
  • Must understand FAR Part 135 Regulations, Company Operations and SOPs.
  • Ability to create independent coursework and material without direct supervision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including holidays, overnight and weekends.
  • Able to stand up to 90 minutes at a time.
  • Able to lift 25 pounds, under 25% of the time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs.
